Parish Meetings
Although Stow Bedon & Breckles has a Parish Council, the law still says, "The parish meeting of a parish shall assemble annually on some day between 1st March and 1st June, both inclusive, in every year." We usually hold this during May. A parish meeting may be convened by the chairman of the parish council, or any two parish councillors for the parish, or any six local government electors for the parish.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led the Government to suspend the requirement for this meeting temporarily.
This is a meeting of the parish rather than of the Council, although the Council Chairman must preside if he/she is present.
A Parish Meeting can discuss and pass resolutions on any issue of parochial interest, although it should be said that such a resolution is not legally binding.
Our Annual Parish Meeting is used for various bodies to give a report on the past year. These normally include both parish churches, the Trustees of the parochial charities, and, of course, the Parish Council itself.
